Role Summary
The Junior AI Engineer will contribute to the development and deployment of AI/ML capabilities
within COREsight, C-CORE’s operational Maritime Domain Awareness platform. The role focuses
on target correlation algorithms, geospatial foundation models, and the build-out of production
ML pipelines supporting satellite-based maritime surveillance.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine ML models for maritime target correlation, integrating satellite imagery, AIS, and RF data sources
Research, evaluate, and adapt geospatial foundation models for remote sensing and Earth observation tasks relevant to maritime domain awareness
Contribute to the design and implementation of MLOps infrastructure including model registry, experiment tracking, automated retraining, validation, and staged deployment
Prepare and manage geospatial training datasets (SAR, optical, vector) including labelling, augmentation, and quality assurance
Evaluate model performance against operational metrics and support continuous model monitoring in production
Document methods, experiments, and results to support reproducibility and knowledge transfer
Collaborate with backend developers and analysts to integrate ML outputs into the COREsight platform
Required Qualifications
- M.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field
0–2 years of experience (including co-op, thesis, or research work)
Solid grounding in machine learning and deep learning (CNNs, transformers, object detection architectures)
Proficiency in Python and at least one ML framework (PyTorch preferred)
Familiarity with ML experiment workflows: data preparation, training, evaluation, iteration
Ability to work with Linux environments and version control (Git)
Assets
- Experience with geospatial data formats and tools (GeoTIFF, Shapefiles, GDAL/OGR, rasterio, geopandas)
Exposure to SAR imagery or remote sensing data
Familiarity with MLOps tooling (MLflow, DVC, Weights & Biases, or similar)
Experience with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD concepts
Knowledge of cloud compute for ML workloads (AWS, Azure)
Published research or project work in geospatial AI or Earth observation
Eligibility Requirements
- Ability to work full-time in Newfoundland and Labrador starting August 2026.
Legally entitled to work full-time in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Completion (within the past two years) of a minimum one-year post-secondary or skills-training program at a recognized NL institution (e.g., MUN, CNA, Keyin College, Get Building, etc.).
Not currently enrolled as a full-time student.
