techNL Events Code of Conduct 

At techNL, we strive to create events where everyone feels welcome, valued, and respected. Guided by our core values—integrity, accountability, tenacity, community, and balance— this Code of Conduct ensures a positive and inclusive experience for all participants. 

Whether you are an attendee, sponsor, volunteer, or staff member, we invite you to join us in upholding these principles. Together, we can foster a safe, supportive, and enjoyable environment for everyone. 

  1. Respect and Courtesy

We believe in treating each other with kindness and professionalism. 

  • Speak and act with consideration, respect, and empathy for others. 
  • Choose words and actions that contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, avoiding inappropriate language, humour, or behaviour. 
  • Be mindful of personal boundaries and the diverse experiences and perspectives of fellow participants. 
  1. Zero Tolerance for Harassment

Our community thrives on respect. Harassment in any form has no place at our events, including: 

  • Unwelcome physical or verbal behaviour, inappropriate jokes, or gestures. 
  • Sexual harassment, including unwelcome advances, inappropriate comments, or the display or sharing of offensive content (such as images, videos, or messages). 
  • Any actions or words that create a hostile or uncomfortable environment. 

If you experience or witness harassment: Please notify event organizers. Your concerns will be handled confidentially and respectfully. Retaliation of any kind will not be tolerated—we are here to support you. 

  1. Responsible Substance Use Policy

To ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable experience, all participants are expected to exercise responsible judgement when consuming alcohol or using substances. 

  • Alcohol: If you choose to purchase alcohol at a techNL event, it should be used responsibly and in moderation. 
  • Cannabis and Other Substances: The use of cannabis or other substances is not permitted unless legally allowed and used in a way that does not compromise the safety or comfort of others. 
  • Transportation: If consuming alcohol or other substances, plan for safe transportation by using taxis, ridesharing services, or designated drivers. 

Important Note: techNL takes no responsibility for transportation decisions made during or after events. However, we strongly encourage participants to prioritize their safety and the safety of others. 

  1. Inclusivity and Collaboration

We celebrate the diversity of our community and the unique contributions of every individual. 

  • Be inclusive in conversations and actions: Use inclusive language, avoid interrupting others, and actively encourage all voices to participate in discussions. 
  • Collaboration: Listen actively, value differing opinions, and approach discussions with curiosity and an open mind. Everyone’s voice matters. 
  • Learn and grow: Be willing to challenge your own assumptions and learn from others’ experiences to build a more inclusive community. 
  1. Integrity and Accountability

We expect all participants to act with honesty, respect, and responsibility. 

  • Follow event guidelines, respect shared spaces, and use resources thoughtfully. 
  • Represent yourself, your organization, and techNL with integrity, both during events and in all related interactions. 
  1. Professionalism Online and In Person

Whether interacting face-to-face or online, professionalism matters. 

  • Be courteous and respectful in digital conversations, including social media and chat forums. 
  • Avoid sharing any confidential or sensitive information related to the event or its participants. 
  1. Safety and Well-being

The safety and well-being of all participants is our priority. 

  • Adhere to all health, safety, and event-specific guidelines to help ensure a secure and positive experience for everyone. 
  • Be mindful of your own well-being and that of others, and promptly report any safety concerns to event organizers. 
  1.  Reporting Concerns

If something feels wrong, we encourage you to speak up. Whether you encounter a safety concern, a violation of this Code of Conduct, or behaviour that makes you uncomfortable, please let event organizers know. 

We are committed to addressing all concerns promptly, fairly, and confidentially. In the event that techNL determines that there has been a breach of the Events Code of Conduct, techNL may take steps to prohibit your attendance at future events.  

Together, we can ensure every techNL event is a positive experience for all.
