Provincial Budget 2017

With the delivery of Budget 2017, the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology Industries (NATI) is asking the Provincial Government to further focus on the innovation sector and continue to work toward specific goals outlined in The Way Forward document released last November.

“The fiscal situation within Newfoundland and Labrador is challenging – however, it requires a long-term approach that includes a strong focus on innovation in our province, and the benefits the technology sector can offer our economy”, said Ajay Pande, Chair of NATI.  “Our members are encouraged to see the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador working towards change, and they believe a fundamental shift and commitment are required to diversify the economy through innovation and technological enablement for our Province.”

Pande says NATI would like the Provincial Government to increase their focus on the initiatives outlined last year in The Way Forward document. “The digital delivery of services, implementation of more effective business financing, and a regional focus on innovation are key elements needed to grow the innovation sector and diversify our economy.” Mr. Pande also commented on the value of immigration. “Often within our sector companies are challenged by gaps in specific skillsets. Immigration can be a great strategy to bridge that gap while at the same time complements the people and skills already existing within our Province to build a stronger, more diversified talent pool.”

“NATI and our members represent some of the brightest technology and innovation companies in Newfoundland and Labrador. The challenges facing our province today cannot be solved by our Government alone,” stated Pande. “NATI and our members encourage Government to collaborate with the private sector to build a vibrant, growing, and diversified economy. We are excited to work together to get the innovation goals identified in The Way Forward document back on the agenda and produce tangible results.”
