National Indigenous Peoples Day 2023

June 21 is a day to reflect on and celebrate the unique heritage, traditions, and knowledge of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.  In particular, the team at #techNL remember and acknowledge the Beothuk, whose culture is forever erased, the Mi’kmaq, the Innu of Nitassinan, the Inuit of Nunatsiavut and the Inuit of NunatuKuvat.  We recognize all First Peoples who were here before us, those who live with us now, and the seven generations to come.

Today, we celebrate the resilience and strength of Indigenous communities, who have persevered through adversity, safeguarding their cultures, traditions, and languages. It’s our responsibility to uplift Indigenous voices and honour the knowledge and wisdom they hold, recognizing that their perspectives and teachings are crucial for healing, sustainability, and harmony with the Earth.

Let us acknowledge and reflect upon the injustices, hardships, and ongoing struggles of Indigenous communities. It is a time to deepen our understanding of the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization and work towards reconciliation, respect, and meaningful partnerships with Indigenous peoples.

As we commemorate National Indigenous Peoples Day, let us commit ourselves to building a more inclusive and equitable #Canada. May this day be filled with joy, appreciation, and a deep sense of gratitude for the rich indigenous cultures that continue to shape and enrich the fabric of our nation!
