Newfoundland and Labrador tech companies pitch digital solutions to the Oil and Gas Industry
St. John’s – techNL is excited to announce the successful presentation of its inaugural Tech Market, a day-long event that took place Tuesday, September 13th at the St. John’s Farmer’s Market.
The event, part of techNL’s Digital Oil and Gas Initiative, in partnership with Energy NL and Subsea Integration Alliance, saw presenters from 17 tech companies pitch their solutions to a panel of judges from the oil and gas sector in a Dragon’s Den style format.
The products and services pitched throughout the day ranged from robots and drones to subsea imaging and holograms, and everything in between. The breadth of solutions that could be applied to help digitally transform the oil and gas sector was a true representation of the strength of, and opportunities for, the province’s growing tech sector.
“The digital transformation is coming to the offshore industry and this event gave us a front row seat,” said Florian Villaumé, Chief Executive Officer of techNL. “Designed as a space for collision and connection between the tech community and the energy industry, the techNL Tech Market showcased how the Newfoundland and Labrador tech sector can support and amplify other industries,” added Villaumé.
Stephanie Gruchy on behalf of Energy NL spoke to how gatherings like this, in a unique setting, foster innovation and grow the province’s energy sector and tech sector together, for the benefit of both. “Let’s be honest, these industries lend themselves to collaboration and have since the outset of the offshore. The linkages between the two industries are growing evermore as the energy industry employs the many benefits of digital technology,” explained Gruchy.
Brian Rogers, on behalf of the Alliance, spoke how the “Subsea Integration Alliance is driven by the philosophy of being globally aware and locally sensitive – as such, we are very pleased have worked with our partners techNL, Energy NL and the Genesis Centre in the development of the techNL Tech Market…We are humbled to be a part of a collective which, through local know-how and expertise, has the potential to provide solutions to global challenges.”
For presenters like Ron Parrott, the CTO of enaimco, a St. John’s based start-up providing digital solutions to support the energy industry’s journey to Net Zero, the event provided connections he says will further drive innovation within enaimco and the entire oil and gas sector.
“Enaimco was formed with the idea that transformational innovation will occur by combining expertise in offshore engineering with expertise in technology and software development. The techNL event highlighted this by showcasing the best of both worlds,” said Parrott.
