Created in 1997, Women in Resource Development Corporation (WRDC) is a provincial non-profit
organization committed to increasing women’s participation in trades and technology. With private and
public funding, WRDC offers a variety of programs and services to address the challenges surrounding the
attraction, recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in these sectors. Our charitable arm, the
Educational Resource Centre (ERC), was created in 2002, to provide hands-on learning and career
exploration opportunities for younger women and girls in science, technology, engineering, and math

Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Communications Specialist will be responsible for the
day-to-day management of internal and external communications and media relations activities. This
individual will initiate, create, and execute effective communications strategies and tactics through the
design, development, and maintenance of WRDC’s advertising, communications, marketing, and media.
This individual will be driven and creative and will attract and interact with targeted virtual audiences and
local communities. You will also possess a solid understanding of social media platforms and how to
optimize content so that its engaging and interactive to our targeted audience. A sophisticated level of
professionalism is crucial.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Develop, implement, and monitor marketing and communications strategies, policies and
practices, including associated documents
• Ensure compliance to brand and visual standards and that the brand voice and messages are
delivered in a consistent and effective way.
• Manage and maintain WRDC website and social media profiles including development and
adaptation of content, and collection of media impressions and metrics
• Coordinate and execute the design, writing, editing, and production of various
communications materials and speaking engagements including speech writing, marketing
campaigns, social media content, press releases etc.
• Coordinate media interviews and leverage communications opportunities to promote WRDC
programs, events, campaigns etc.
• Ensure feedback from community members, clients, stakeholders etc. is captured and
presented to management in order to help develop and refine marketing, public relations,
and social media strategies
• Act as ongoing coach for staff on communications, media relations and social media best
• Research associated costs and prepare detailed estimates and budgets
• Other duties as requested

Qualifications and Requirements
• University Degree or College Diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, or
transferrable area with minimum 3 years of relevant work experience
• Highly sophisticated oral, written and presentation skills including content writing, editing,
proof reading, interviewing etc.; Experience providing engaging, creative, and effective
content under tight deadlines for diverse audiences
• Ability to establish contacts and build long term relationships; work collaboratively with
businesses, industry associations, government, community organizations, media outlets etc.
• Exceptional computer literacy skills including Microsoft 365, virtual platforms etc.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, collaborate and work effectively in a team
environment; flexibility to meet workload demands
• Robust understanding of the media landscape (digital and print), including metric tracking
• Demonstrated experience working with internal and external stakeholders, such as high-level
sponsors and corporate partners is an asset
• Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple
projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
• Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check is required upon employment and every
two years there after

• Some travel may be required for this role. Travel expenses will be covered in accordance with
WRDC policies.

Salary Range: $45,000 – $55,000 per annum. WRDC offers a competitive compensation and benefits
package. Starting salary will commensurate with experience and skills.
